North Richland Hills got its start when 600 families were committed to locate here by a land grant awarded to W.S Peters, and they began arriving in the summer of 1848.  The area focused primarily on ranching and farming for the next hundred years.  Clarence Jones began subdiving his 268-acre dairy farm in 1952 in the area that is now Cummings Drive.  The next year, the Civic League attempted to have the area annexed to Richland Hills, but it was denied and they decided instead to form their own city.  The initial area of the Jones Farm had a population of 500 and officially incorporated as the City of North Richland Hills.

The first section of streets in North Richland Hills was named for the local families. The second section, which was added in 1954, was named for automobiles. There were 188 homes in the first part of the subdivision, which was restricted to brick and masonry construction.  The area continued to grow in the years that followed, and it grew in excess of 60,000 residents with the 2010 census.

A new city hall has begun construction, and will house the hub of the City of North Richland Hills moving forward.  Most of the students attending public school attend the Birdville ISD, and the northern section attends Keller ISD.  One big draw for North Richland Hills is the NRH Centre which has meeting space, fitness facilities and an aquatic center.  Once the weather gets warm, families flock to the NRH’s own water park: NRH2O.
